Windsurfing: Tarifa-Las Dunas Wind Direction: E (Levante) Wind Stength: 4-6 Surf / Sea State: Lumpy Air Temperature: 25 Sea Temperature: 16 Weather: Mucho scorchio! Max Speed: Distance Covered:
The Levante had been slowly building all morning from nothing, so I went
down to the beach to catch it best at ¥5.4¥ state, my favourite sail. It
also meant I beat the hordes...
At first it was necessary to get a bit too far from the shore to get any
decent wind (x-off), and the Levante was as gusty as ever. However, it
soon filled in and before long I was suffering with IWS. (Involuntary
Whooping Syndrome). Still only getting half way around gybes tho.
As the wind increased, so did the speed and the spectacularity (sp?) of the
catapaults. After one such crash my body was wedged between the boom & the
sail - how did that happen? Hilarious!
After 3 hours or so people were going out on 4.2s, so I did a couple of
last runs on the 5.4 just for a laugh. Going into the chop I could hardly
keep the nose of the Axxis down, coming over the back I couldn¥t stop the
fin spinning out. But on the very last run over the back of the chop, I
was sailing off the back foot and the fin kept gripping... bear in mind it
was now blowing old boots & I was sheeted right in on a 5.4. I wish I had
a speedo :-)
I was so happy at the end of the session that when I saw a local mutt
cocking his leg over my board, all I could do was laugh...
